Because we like orange? No really. I know this is a really hard question to answer. First of all I don’t hate any of the leaders in RC transmitters. Transmitters are your primary input to the quad and thus can be as personal as a pair of shoes, a tennis racket, or your XBox or PS4 controller. So keep in mind the following are my feelings and this cannot be argued by anyone but me.
First, I feel the quality of the Spektrum line is far superior to most of the cheaper brands. It is like the $100 LG phone compared to the iPhone X series. They just feel different. They do the same things but I like the solid feel of the Spektrum line.
Second, I have NEVER had a failsafe. I hear all the stories about this and that transmitter. I have personally witnessed other brands failsafe at 500ft. I use genuine Spektrum receivers and I have never had a problem.
Third, the latency is far lower on DSMX than the other leaders. You need to do a little research and watch a couple videos by Joshua Bardwell (who knows his wireless) to get all the facts but you will find that the number of packets and the distant between these packets correlates to responsiveness and Spektrum is a leader in this area.
Fourth, I love bind and fly goodies from the hobby store. Christmas can be a very fun place if you have a bunch of flying things and enough controllers to control them.
Fifth, I have been in RC since 72mHz, yep that is me, channel 23. I always used JR transmitters and when Spektrum came out I was an early adopter. It was a very natural progression for me.
Sixth, I literally have 40+ models on Spektrum and it would cost far more than the IX12 to convert them all.
And finally, The Spektrum customer service is top notch. You don’t find parts and replacement pots and gimbals online for a Spektrum. If there is something wrong with your controller you can send it to them and they will fix it quickly and sometimes at no cost.
